...it reads combustion mass. Technically, it should be marked 'bang mg/c'. You probably wouldn't want it to read pressure, at least in something like an Aero, because you can make peak mass without making peak boost. They're close. For afficionados, you want to see the number (my A-pillar pod is ready to go in) but for the masses it would be confusing since the boost pressure on a T7 (9-5) is not a consistent number.
Older systems shoot to make a certain boost within a curve. It has a particular number in mind at any given time. This is also why older systems were more affected by weather.
The 9-5 system shoots to make a certain torque, and only requests enough boost to hit that torque number, which happens to match combustion mass. What would make it confusing it that you could make it on 13 psi or 18 psi depending on weather, fuel, altitude, etc. That's a wide range, you'd have to get into a discussion of physics and turbocharger theory to explain why it only went 3/4 on one day and a touch into the red on the next. Fine for us but it's something the service network wasn't willing to sign up for.
