I just gave up my 99 V6 Wagon with nearly 90k. I missed the Saab engine and the "feel" of the turbo boost. The V6, which was regularly maintained, was a good car until around 75k miles when little things started to go wrong -- most of them having nothing to do with the engine. The V6 has a big throaty sound; you can almost hear it lift off! The engine does have a few quirks, such as a retrofitted location for the oil filter; the original space is sealed with a gasket that gets brittle over time and leaks. I replaced it at around 30k miles and 84k. (They use a rubber gasket; no idea why they don't use one made of silicone.) Also, cars of that vintage that had the timing belt replaced at Saab's expense probably didn't have the idlers replaced at the same time because, at the time, Saab wasn't replacing them. (Now they are.) Too bad, because my idlers broke at 87k and I had to replace the timing belt and idlers AT MY EXPENSE. (That's good news to anybody looking for a good car that is now on Mike Lynch's lot, where I just traded the V6 for a new Aero Wagon. Hopefully, they'll do a good job fixing the other quirk: The threating on the oil bolt pan is stripped, so a new oil pan is in order.) Other than that, and other non-engine related issues, it's a great car. (I just needed a certain level of dependability, so traded up.)
