I don' think you are too strong. One of the things I have always loved about Saabs is the fact that they are Swedish cars. That is, they are cars made in a small country and have some distinct personality.
By turning Saab into a re-badged Opel, and forcing Trollhatten to build hulking luxo-guzzlers, GM will kill the Saab brand. This will happen first in Europe and then in the rest of the world.
MB is already a worse-off car for their merger and so is Volvo. BMW may be able to hold out. I think it is the last of the true European cars, but alas, very expensive.
When I think of GM, I think of cheap, like the new Malibu with an old-tech engine made in China.
