Here's a big one - the Saab comes with a solid, folding cargo cover. The V70 comes with what? A window shade? Which do you think will be quieter? Which do you think will keep the stuff in the cargo bay from slamming you in the back of the head in a crash? Look around at V70s in parking lots (or most wagons, for that matter). Most have given up on the window-shade. Makes for a noisy box.

When I was wagon shopping last fall, I could easily get into a Linear Wagon, automatic, comfort package (heated seats) for $28 even, no sweat. That included a loyalty rebate of $500 (since changed). An Arc would go for very, very low 30K - like $30.5 or $31K.

At that time, the various car sites were still showing $34K for the Linear, a full $6K over what I could get. And getting the good price didn't require a secret handshake or sending the salesman to Syria for questioning. Just go in and ask what the current incentives are.

Yes, some of the very nice discounts have gone away. But Saabs aren't exactly flying off the lot, and March isn't a big time for car sales, so they're pushing them. Sales will pick up in the spring (it's almost here!). Of course, the best time to buy is August/September, as the '05s will be clearing out. Less of a selection, though.

I suspect that the Saab can be bought for a lot less than you think. I'll leave it to others to explain why the Saab is better than the V70. (except for that comment on the cargo cover.)
