And a lot of it is driver technique, but I think it is fair to say that 9-5 brake life is generally less than in previous models. I ran my first 9-5 ( stick) to 88K miles when I sold it with it's original brakes still intact and in great shape, and I believe that the car's current owner ran them to about 110 K or so before doing any brake work. Prior car to that was a 9000 Aero that I sold at 104 K miles, original brakes with about half the pad life remaining and rotors still meeting specs. Current 9-5 Aero got EBC pads at 9 K,ran those and front rotors to 55 K and replaced with same items due to rotor vibration( annoying to me,others who drove it did not notice it). EBC pads had half the material still there, so pad wear was very accceptable.
I think that the current stock Saab pad is fairly abraisive and eats rotors for lunch. Going through a set of rotors in under 20 K miles is horrible, but if you scan this board you will find others who have reported this. I'm convinced that if my car were a stick( and glad it's not) the brakes would last even longer. Judicious downshifting really makes the brakes work a lot less.
