years? So that you'll actually own something? I bought a Jeep truck in 1987 that I used exclusively until I bought my Saab in 2001. I took two years to pay for my Jeep. That's over 10 YEARS of not having a car payment instead of having a car payment every month for 10 years. Granted, my Saab is a lot more expensive, but I hope to have at least 3 years of no car payments. At over $500/month, I'd have to have quite a bit of maintenance before it would work out to my detriment. Moreover, the property taxes (in CT) are much, much higher for new cars. It's true that you can deduct the taxes, but that doesn't work really that well. By the way, I still drive the Jeep to save miles on the Saab.
