thanks again Geoff.. very helpful
I did poke around down their today, removing the glove box and another trim panel underneath it.. very tight fit to say the least!
In any case.. I did see a floor vent and tried to reach into it to see if I could feel the flap.. but no luck.. immediately to that outvent was a disc type part.. about an 1.5 inches (give or take) in diameter with a silver metallic cover.. it had the letter R printed on it.. and I suspect that may have been the motor...Maybe if I have time I can try taking that apart and see if i can manage to manipulate the flap as you did...
Otherwise I may have to crack down and use the dealer...
