the car threw a CEL and stored a misfire code on cylinder#1... a new DI was installed under warranty along with a new spark plug - the car threw another CEL on hard acceleration at 11.5K with the same misfire code... again under warranty all 4 plugs and another DI were installed... burn marks were found on the DI - with DI number three all was fine until 21.4K when I got a flashing CEL driving at highway speed... dealer replaced intake manifold gasket, DI and wiring checked out OK this time. Dealer has opened up a ticket with Saab to document the DI replacement history.

From reading this board my experience seems like an isolated case. Anders has speculated that there may be a manufacturing defect in the combustion chamber that causes the repeated misfire, or perhaps the spray pattern of the injector in cylinder #1 is not quite optimal. Who knows? The engine pulls strong and gets a good workout when there's enough road to do so. I don't carry a spare DI but maybe I will if I go on a long trip. So far so good and I really love driving the car.

Heat does seem to be the problem. Not sure how oil and coolant would make much difference as the residual heat in the engine compartment is going to be the same regardless. I started raising the hood after daily drives after DI #1 was replaced just to dissipate the engine compartment heat, tho it hasn't seemed to help. Best of luck!

Happy Saabing!
