In Sept 2002 I leased a 9-5 from David O'Neal Saab in Raleigh, NC. It was a loaner vehicle with 2800 miles on it. I asked the salesman, Dwayne, twice whether the 3yr/36000 mile warranty would be honored even though the vehicle had 2800 miles. He assured me twice that it would be honored. Well, the first two yrs went by and I brought it in end of Aug beginning of Sept both times and received the free scheduled maintenance both time. Nothing was said to me about it being late each time. When I made the appointments, I told them that it was time for my scheduled maintenance. No problem. However, this time I was told they will not do it because the car arrived on their lot in April of 2002 and that's when the warranty began. Is this nuts or what?! The service dept person called me back and told me that Saab corporate confirmed this. Well, I responded by saying that unless they honor it, they've lost a repeat customer and any future referrals or recommendations from me and then I hung up.

I live 90 miles away from this dealership. I coworker with a 9-3 has had similar experiences with this dealership. Two weeks ago he had to plead for a rental car because they wanted to keep his car for a week while they ordered replacement. Both us agreed that our next car would not be a Saab. They are nice cars ( I like mine just fine), but having to deal with this sort of nonsense is simply not worth it.

Another coworker purchased a used Acura. When he needed service, he brought his car to the dealership 100 miles away in the Raleigh area and was offered a loaner, a brand new one at that, with having to ask. How does Saab expect to grow and compete with Acura's and Toyota's of the auto marketplace when they treat their customers with this kind of disregard?

Signed, one disappointed and soon to be former Saab owner/lessor.
