So I decided to go for some test runs this evening, and I have results that differ slightly with regards to highway mileage.
I did a 6.9 mile run on the Belt Parkway from the Verrazano Bridge to Sheepshead bay. I hit CLEAR on the SID while merging from the onramp, here is what I found...
--No passangers, driver only---
Bay Ridge ---> Sheepshead Bay
Distance: 6.9 miles
Climate: 72/72 Auto
Sport: No
Tires: Avon M550 M+S 40/39PSI (two days old)
Gas: 93 Octane Costco (yeah!)
Speed: 55mph-65mph
Boost: Green throughout borderline yellow when passing
Gas consumption: 33.5MPG (did not go below 30MPG)
I took the westbound exit and cleared the SID, this time I wanted to simulate real life conditions, on the last run I really made sure I did not pass, speed, brake and one toed the throttle.
I turned on sport mode and meged onto the freeway in a "lively" manner. A few seconds later I was on the left lane, I passed slower vehicles and merged onto the faster lanes with a (half) mash on the throttle. I flinged the car accross a few lanes before exiting but was careful not to have the boost go into the red only borderline yellow/red...
Surprisingly I did not go below 30MPG on this 6.9 mile run, I didn't go crazy with full throttle lane changes but I was not gentle...
Sheepshead Bay ---> Bay Ridge
Distance: 6.9 miles
Climate: 72/72 Auto
Sport: No
Tires: Avon M550 M+S 40/39PSI (two days old)
Gas: 93 Octane Costco
Speed: 65-75 varying
Boost: Green and Yellow but did not stay in red at anytime
Gas consumption: 31.0MPG (mileage went as low as 29.8 during spirited manuvers)
Now for the city, and more on how I get from 31MPG to 14MPG. I got off on 92nd street and waited at the light, while standing at the light I noticed that the SID reading drops .2MPG every five seconds. A few blocks later the MPG was 18.4, I idled during a phonecall - 16.8 and by the time I got home my SID was back at 15MPG +/1 1MPG.
It would be interesting to see what code/program the SID uses to calculate the mpg numbers..weighted average? smoothed back to mile one? example...if Im standing at a light and my MPG after a 7mile run drops .2MPG for every five seconds does that mean that I'm getting like...4MPG at the light to offset 7 miles of 30MPG?
anyhow, the highway mileage is a bit better than when I first posted but the city mileage is still cut throat....
