I made the changes described earlier, maybe it was January. I moved the small PCV line from the oil fill tube back to the valve cover fitting, plugged the port on the oil fill tube, removed the partial check-valve on the line going from oil trap to air inlet pipe (replaced it with a brass barbed hose connector fitting from Home Depot), and left the oil trap with larger (drilled out) orifice on the engine.
Oil consumption is now back to normal, meaning almost none! I no longer have to add oil between my 5,000 mile oil change intervals.
FWIW - I also changed from Mobil 1 0W/40 to Mobil 1 5W/40. Maybe this oil change is meaningless but thought I should at least mention it.
