Save the environment a tiny bit, if there is such a service in your area- get them re-gassed. Low temperatures will cause whatever gas is still in there to contract, thereby further reducing pressure in the strut- further reducing 'spring' force.
The seals in the strut are designed to seal in one direction only, when new the struts have some thosands of PSI in them, over time this leaks down and they lose strength. To "re-gas" them it's just a matter of dropping the strut into a suitable pressure vessel, seal the vessel and apply X-number of thousand PSI via a gas cylinder (N2 usually). The seals 'give' in one direction and allow the gas to enter, once the pressure inside the strut is higher than outside (ie when the pressure to the vessel is released) the seals clap shut again and hey presto- new strut.
I say this only as an example of how simple and easy on the environment it is to re-gas, not so you do it yourselves. If the strut/s have any sign of leaking oil don't bother to get them re-gassed, they're stuffed. But if they have simply lost some of their 'punch', especially in the cold, then they are probably not yet beyond redemption.
Cheers
Steve
