Re: 120k service...twice (256K miles) Posted by Herb Hirsch [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Re: 120k service, Steve, Thu, 15 Dec 2005 16:34:48 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I've done the 120K mile service TWICE. My 2000 9-5 Aero no has 256K miles on it. Other responders have been very thorough in identifying service items so I won't repeat the list. Instead I'll only list items not already listed and a couple which I don't believ should be replaced prematurely.
Alternator voltage regulator: the brushes wear down in 120K - 150K miles
Waterpump: not unless it's leaking....my first went at 80K miles; and now 176K miles later the replacement still doesn't leak.
Thermostat: not unless there is a problem.....I still have the original...and the car warms up quickly (like yesterday at 9 degrees)...and the tempature gauge sits dead center after warmup.
Battery: Have it tested. You may catch it before it catches you.
Struts and shocks: 120K is elderly. I switched to Koni's; they're cheaper and better.
