The 2005 9-5 received new pads from factory (made by Akebono) that is suppose to last longer, create less dust and put less wear on the rotors.
Another thing to keep in mind is that brakes are one of the easiest items to sell to the customer and you can do it over and over again and the customer is just as happy that you caught it in time.
What this means is that hungry mechanics tend to sell brakes long before they are actually worn out.
It is many new to me customers that have come in saying they were told they needed brakes right away and when I look and the brakes they are only half way worn down.
If that would be the case on your car, it would mean that you could get another 10-15K easily out of the brakes before they need to be replaced.
But a thing like that is hard to prove if you are not familiar with brake repairs and what the pads looks like when new.
