I got a 2000 Aero wagon this year, love it so far.
Front wheel bearings seem to have a shorter than average life, as do batteries from what I've heard. The SID is usually fixable if you aren't the "take it to the shop" type (I fixed mine), the DIC will be replaced under recall very shortly so no worries there. There are a couple of other faults you hear about (blend door in the climate control, ABS module, window guide, dirty throttle body) but they usually have pretty cheap easy fixes if you keep an ear on this forum.

Don't panic if you read this forum! Don't forget that people generally only write in if something's gone wrong, so you get a skewed impression.

As with any used car, not a bad idea to replace all fluids and belts, wiper blades and all that stuff - just so you know what's there. Mechanically they seem to be very good, and no worse than anything else.

Main thing prior to purchase is to get the rocker cover taken off (five minute job using tools in the boot, no gaskets required) and that should give you an idea of whether it's got any sludging issues due to what seems to be (lets face it) the susceptibility of this engine to oil sludging even when serviced to factory recomendations (which are D-U-M-B). Don't worry too much about the odd bit of black buildup, or the yellow 'varnish' colour on the inside of the timing case - mine had that and I took off the sump and found it was basically perfect. That is the #1 thing to look out for. I can email photos of mine if you like.

The Aero motor, though virtually identical, has a slightly better crankcase breather and a more durable turbo (and it goes!). It's the one to get for sure.

Just my $0.02
Steve
