The 9-5 was never like a 9000.

MY 1999 non-Aero models had especially slender engine components which were upgraded for MY 2000 to be consistent with those in the Aero engine.

Power in the Aero went from 235 (?) hp for '99-01 to 250 for '02-05 to 260 for '06. In terms of driving feel, with the standard trans, it doesn't make a whit of difference unless you're on the track racing someone. They all have the same 258 ft. lb. of torque with the same 272 ft. lb. "overboost" capability.

Power in the base (or linear) went from a totally inadequate 170 for '99 to a still-inadequate 185 for '00-03 to 220 for '04-05 to 260 for '06.

The V-6 never came with a standard trans.

I recommend you avoid the '99, and either stick with the Aero or upgrade the linear with either the Saab tuning kit or one of the aftermarket kits.

Other than that, be sure, absolutely sure, and completely sure that the car you purchase has no trace of sludge and proper oil pressure.
