This "bad gas" thing is not completely without merit. I have a 2001 9-5 Aero, which I bought as a CPO vehicle with 27K on the odo. After about 6 months, I began to have trouble starting after the car sat out overnight - long cranking, stumbling/dying, etc. The dealer replaced the TBS, and experimented with putting in a new DIC - nada. Eventually it was suggested that I try switching to a different brand of fuel. I began to think that they were just blowing smoke, but followed their advice. I had been using Mobil 93 octane. The first tank of Sunoco 93 octane solved the problem permanently after 10 miles of driving and then shutting down for the night. The explanation is that *SOME* Saabs seem to be very sensitive to the particular fuel supply.
Given the way the 9-5's computer is supposed to handle changes in octane, I was doubtful to say the least. But the Aero's flawless perfromance since the fuel switch can't be explained any other way.
