I like to use Purolator Pure-One's which cost about $6 here in Portland, Oregon. They also have a very good anti-drainback valve which helps prevent dry starts from oil running from the oil passages back into the pan as the vehicle sits overnight. Ideally, depending on the filter's orientation, you can pre-charge the filter by pouring new oil into the filter's hole. My V-6 filter is inverted so I can fill it up. Then after filling the sump with new oil and filter installed, you can also disconnect the DIC connector (no spark) and crank the engine over until the oil light goes out (indicating about 7 psi of pressure). Then turn off the key, hook up the DIC. The reason for this extra step is so the turbocharger doesn't "dry start".
