Some good advice so far. 5k changes, only using full synthetic, preferably in an XW-40 weight. I'd shy away from 5W-30 - nothing wrong with them, but the 9-5 engine seems better suited (and Saab's various recommendations imply it) for 40 weights. I second MI-Roger's suggestion of the Mobil 1 5W-40. Note, they are re-branding it and it will soon be called "Turbo Diesel Truck". Weird. If that creeps you out, the 0W-40 will be fine as well. I also use the Purolator PureOne filter. I replace the washer every time or every other time.
The 9-5 is actually a very easy car to change the oil on. The drain plug and filter are easily accessed. I do not go to the lengths Scott described, removing the DIC and cranking it. I believe that if you're doing the job on a warm engine, and you haven't let it sit for hours draining, that the turbo will still have some oil in it and the new oil will circulate so quickly no harm will be done.
I do "pre-fill" the filter. You don't fill the whole thing up. Just pour a little in, then hold the filter sideways and rotate it. It'll soak into the filter media. Do it another time or two until it just settles in the middle there while you rotate it. We're talking a total of maybe 1/5th of a quart tops. When it's time to install the filter, just do it quickly and it won't pour out.
