4-cylinder advice / personal habits..... 1) I change the oil and filter every 5,000 miles
2) I use Mobil 5W/40 oil, just close your eyes and pretend it doesn't say Truck & SUV on the label.
3) I install a new drain plug washer every other time I change the oil. At the intermittent changes I flip the washer over.
4) For filters I had been using AC PF53 until their last supplier change. I switched to an oversized AC PFL400A filter about a year ago, the same filter used on Chrysler's Turbocharged PT Cruser. Mobil 1 filters are very good but pricey; Purolator Pure One filters are very good and less expensive, but very difficult to find in my local area.
5) I don't pre-fill the filter since it sits horizontal and would spill all over when installing.
6) I fold a sheet of aluminum foil to place under the old filter and direct leakage into the drain pan when removing the old filter.
7) Only use a 6-point 13mm socket (or wrench) to remove the drain plug. The plug material is soft and you will round off the bolt if you use a 12-point socket, even only once. I speak from experience.
Have fun.
