For many Saab folks a strong preference for European design is the root of Saab ownership. European design also gets you a car that's better suited to many western sized people. Another benefit of European design to many is the feel engineered into the car to handle higher speed limits. Engineering for higher speed limits and harsher climates often produces a car with advanced safety features.
Any 9-5 is an excellent choice for reliability exceeding many Japanese cars in this category. So much so that a 9-5 is a recommended car for reliability as well as safety in Consumer Reports who notoriously prefer Japanese cars. A Linear is plenty of car for anybody, but if you got her an Aero she might not mind as everyone likes the seats and the power and the ride still pretty good for a sport package.
Many 9-5 owners also have a 9-3 and like both. The 9-5 is bigger and more traditional, the 9-3 is slightly smaller with a fresher and newer design.
