Timing belt slipped on V6, valves bent

1999 SAAB 9-5 V6 SE, 85,000 miles
Had my car towed to the dealership this morning -- the service advisor told me that the timing belt had slipped and all but ruined the engine -- valves are bent and both cylinder heads need replacement. The expense would be huge: in best case scenario $3,000 (if they can use heads from a 2001 V6 engine they have); worst case $7,000+! I am livid at the fact that the timing belt was replaced at the same dealership (free of charge, as part of the 60,000 mile service) 1.5 years and a mere 22,000 miles ago. My feeling is that the timing belt on such a renowned vehicle should last more than that?
Would I be justified in requesting that repairs be done free of charge? One of my suspicions is that the belt was not properly installed or if it was properly installed that its design is rather bad. The car is out of warranty at this point so do I have any recourse with the dealership or SAAB USA?
Any suggestions/opinions greatly appreciated!
