Most likely it is one of the three tensioner/idler pulley bearings that have seized, making the belt jump teeth and ruining the heads.
Some lucky souls have been able to recoupe some and sometimes all of the repair costs by presenting facts and being stern.
If you search this and the NG900/OG9-3 board for timing belt and tensioner and pick up from the huge information that is stored on this site, you will have a lot more ammo for the battle.
It's plain ludicrious to not replace the whole tensioner pulley package with the belt replacement at 60K but dealers are not required to do so on the 9-5 model, so technically, they didn't do anything wrong.
On the NG900/9000 model on the other hand, they were required to replace the tensioner package at least once during the free replacement of belt.
In a best case scenario, you are looking at around $2500.00 and up at an independant Saab shop to rebuild the cylinder heads with new valves and guides and put everything back together again.
