How much do you load up your wagon? How bad is the inner tire wear? Is it just a little wear or very bad cupping? There are various degrees of the problem that require various degrees of fixing. Ideally one would check the rear alignment as one progressed, although this could get expensive. It might be possible to do this simply by measuring the ride height as outlined in the WIS and then using the tables. I monitored changes to the ride height as the dealer tried things and the ride height never really changed much except for the replacement of the spring and shocks. While technically the ride height alters alignment, I don’t think this works the other way around. So you probably can’t tell much by measuring the ride height. If the alignment is only a little bit off, a few tenths of a degree one could try new springs and shocks and/or the rear shim solution. My alignment was more than one degree off and neither of those common solutions did anything at all (the new springs did help the ride height). Ultimately my car needed the rear subframe replaced. A Saab field engineer suggested this after noticing that Saab had replaced a number of these for similar reasons. Apparently the subframe deforms allowing the rear end to sag too much. This seems to occur when the car is used for extended periods in a loaded position. Many BB users with bad rear tire wear problems report using their car loaded on extended trips. My dealer did not know what to look for and I didn’t see the old subframe so I don’t know if there would be any visual cues if the part has deformed. I suspect not since the deformation can’t be very large. Good luck.
