There are a bunch or engineers driving Saabs. I don't question what happened in your case. I've had BMW's and never had the rear tire wear I've had on a Saab either. I would speculate that rear-wheel drive has a wee bit to do with that. Perhaps we need to examine other FWD cars with sagging (cambered) rear ends to further analyze the wear.
Our experiences are different. While I have had no further problems with tire wear despite my rear camber, others do. I am only passing along the results I have obtained by tire rotation and optimal air pressure. My only unusual tire wear occured within the early days of a new Saab. My current 2000 wagon, has had no such problems even after a 3500 mile (loaded) journey to Canada and back without any rotation.
I just happen to be a satellite engineer that used to be a mechanic. I still enjoy the challenge of trying to pinpoint the "why" in my Saab. I keep telling myself that there should be an easy answer. LOL
