I feel there are multiple answers to this question---and no one single answer. First, as has been written, is the application...loaded, or commuter-type driving ? Secondly, interval of tire rotation? Thirdly, air pressures for your style of driving? Fourth, the tires themselves---some brands appear more suceptible to this inner wear. Fifth, alignment....I just had my 2001 LPT wagon aligned today at 81k miles---for the first time!!! Caster, and camber on the front were almost identical (Left vs. Right). Toe-in was in too much by approx 2x the spec. Rear camber was literally identical from side to side. Rear toe-in was almost identical from side to side, as well.
I could not believe my eyes!!! After 81,000 miles....!!! I am impressed!!The technician was pleasantly surprised, too.
99% of the time, I am the only driver, and it is basically unladen.
In my opinion, "some" inside wear is a natural thing. I had my tire pressures at 38 psi cold. My Saab dealer, and the alignment tech both suggested to reset them to 35 psi to allow for a "more even wear pattern".
Hey, I've already reset the tire pressures, and am willing to try it out.
Over the years, I've seen this inner-wear characteristic in SAAB, Audi, and other FWD vehicles.
I hope this helps you...
