A few months ago, I found a 'leftover' 05 9-5 with less than 1,000 miles on it. The car was covered by the remainder of the factory-paid service and warranty (which translated to just under the 3 year timetable) - and the starting price was > $10,000 less than an '06 (ultimately got even better as we negotiated).

In Maine, we have to pay excise tax in order to register the car and the mil rate is based upon the model year, and goes down significantly each subsequent year. Translation was an additional several hundred dollars savings, and the insurance was also less.

There were a few features that the '05 was missing that would have been nice, but the bottom line in my case was that the cash savings was well worth going to a car that was a model year older.

Of course, as they say, your mileage may vary - but I'd go this route again as long as they had the car/color/etc. that I wanted.
