Hey I sell CPO used my self too. For me if you're gonna' start comparing new to used then a customer has to buy in to the notion that a lease is a good thing. Otherwise you have a price discrepancy that can't be overcome. Used is just cheaper and all some folks wanna' spend.
Now if you look at a car as a monthly expense only, a payment, a more pragmatic and what's the word, devil may care, hedonistic, self gratification, well what I'm trying to express is the idea that your level of personal self value finds a more positive space in a less expensive, but new looking Certified Pre Owned.
Not owning something can be unsettling and many people just know there's somethng behind the curtain so to speak in a lease and just won't consider it. Justifying a vehicle purchase with a lease is dangerous rationalizing to some.
I have come to a couple of dollars and cents conclusions about leasing vs buying CPO. For one the payments will be the same or less for the lease and you'll have to finance the 3 year old CPO for 5 more years to make the puchase payments correspond to a lease on an equivalent new model. Secondly on any given vehicle the 1st 3 years of depreciation, years 1 through 3, is roughly the same dollar amount as the 2nd 3 years deprection, years 3 through 6.
The rational discussion of the above results still doesn't satisfy or overcome a person's basic buying motivation which usually isn't a rational thing anyway.
