The "T" stands for "truck", and it is available as a synthetic in 5W40 and "conventional oil" (actually Class II base stock) in 15W40. There are some other weights around but they are rare on the shelves in the USA.
"Truck" oil (i.e., heavy duty engine oil, API CI or the new CJ ratings) has the benefit of extra dispersant additive, put in to keep the inevitable diesel soot from coalescing. This might very well help keep the sludge crystals found in sludged 9-5 4 cylinder engines from forming. It also has the advantage of high levels of phosphorous, in the form of zinc disomething phosphate (that's a technical term ;-)) which is a very effective anti-wear and anti-oxidant additive. But it has the disadvantage of not having an ACEA rating, which calls into question your warranty status. For those interested in the best of both worlds, Amsoil 10W40 carries both ACEA A3/B3 ratings and API CI-4 (heavy duty truck) ratings. Amsoil 5W40 used to carry heavy duty truck and GM Long Life ratings, but it has been reformulated. Now it carries VW's very stringent automotive diesel rating, Mercedes and BMW's toughest specs, but lacks GM's Long Life rating.
