I can maybe provide a little insight... see below.
I called my Saab dealer asking about this problem and can it be fixed with springs/struts. He said without looking at the car, it is more then likely due to the front strut(s).
*** Well, maybe. There is some gas pressure there so if the pressure has leaked out over the miles, that corner would be a bit lower, although most of the ride height is provided by the springs.
I was also told that Saab makes about 10 different struts that would fit a 95 between the years 99 and 05. He would need the part number from the existing struts to find the exact replacement.
*** You'd replace them in pairs (both fronts, both rears) anyways, so an exact match with what the factory used isn't that important. If you want exact factory struts, you can get the code from the body plate that contains the VIN number (one of the codes following the VIN specifies the front struts).
Then I asked if parts from an 02 Aero would fit my car. He said maybe and would depend on what was in the car already. (I asked about the 02 Aero suspension as someone on this board suggested that it was a good upgrade to the 01 Aero suspension).
*** The "Saab Sport Chassis" or "Saab Roadholding Kit" is essentially a complete 2002 Aero suspension (springs, struts/shocks, sway bars) all packaged together at an attractive price ($600ish US). I just bought one for my '01 base model but haven't picked it up yet. The Saab parts catalogue lists it for various models. If the '02 Aero suspension will fit my '01 (base wagon) I see no reason it shouldn't fit your '01 Aero.
He also mentioned the sport suspension. This would stiffen the ride of my car assuming I dont have the sport suspension.
*** If he's talking about the same sport suspension kit mentioned above, you already have it. Maybe he's talking about some aftermarket kit, in which case you don't have it.
Any idea how I can tell if my car has the sport suspension?
*** depends on the answer to the previous question!
Any idea what could be wrong with my car ride height?
*** any accidents/front suspension damage/strut replacement in the past? If a spring is not seated correctly in the strut, that corner will be higher.
After 90k miles you're due for new struts/shocks anyways... if you don't mind a little stiffer ride people really like the Bilsteins.
