150K miles is starting to reach the effective life of the cat but it also depend on many things.
A car that has been running good since day one and all services and oil changes done properly so that the engine is running clean, stands a bigger chance to have the cat last a long time.
A neglected car may see the cat fail a lot earlier.
As older the car gets and more miles put on, the cat also gets more and more vulnerable for disturbances like misfires, failed oxygen sensors and coolant contamination (from a leaking head gasket).
So, even if the cat could take a lot of abuse when it was new, doesn't mean it can take it 5 years later and 100K+ miles.
In the IDM recall, Saab also pay for a new cat if it fails within three months after the cat failed.
