Just my 2 cents.
'01 aero, VIN is in the affected range. I had no leaks. I choose to change the headbolts.
When I removed the old bolts I was astonished at how loose they were. No, they were not loose enough to remove by finger. But there was no "crack" when I loosened them. I requre breaker bar of any sort, just my regular ratchet. they were torqued to 20-40 lbs maybe? I dont know for sure but before I removed one, I tightened them all to spec.
is there a problem here? definitely. It seems clear to me that the bolts are too loose and/or too soft.
