Absolutly, you could have a whole bunch of lawyers argue the case back and forth but it doesn't really change anything.
Yes, the best way to deal with it is to replace the head gasket and bolts which will run about $700.00 to $1200.00 depending on the shop.
But to minimize the cost and maximize the the chances for the head gasket to live longer, I sell the $160.00 bolt replacement and retorque of gasket
No, the new head gasket is no different and we now see more of the later cars having a slight oil leak in that rear corner.
It's not the oil leak that concerns me the most, it is the overall clamping force of the head to engine block.
The newer engines after that VIN at least have a good clamping force all over the surface due to better bolts and proper torque, helping to keep the combustion on one side and coolant on the other side.
When I replace a head gasket today, I always add some extra anerobic sealant around those affected areas and that seems to help for the oil leak.
So ones again, the bolt replacement is not purely to stop the oil leak (it might slow it down though and maybe stop it) but to restore proper clamping force over the whole cylinder head gasket.
