It's more metaphorical than litteral.

Up/Back
I'm able to lay my arms over the top of the wheel -- with my wrists easily resting a tad beyond the wheel. The "way up" part means that I can do this without losing contact with the back of the seat. This is why I wasn't knocked silly by the headrest or seat when I got crushed.

I also keep the wheel low and away from the dash becuase of the reach thing. You simply can't do hand-over-hand steering from a distance -- while reaching UP.

Height/Tilt
I've had 3 surgeries to remove/repair a polynidal cist (SP?). If you don't know, you can look it up but basically I can't do full body weight flat against the base of my spine. (Think airline seat, movie seat or sit ups). To relieve the pressure I have to shift my weight to one side or shift my center either up or back from my tailbone.

That said, I have the seat bottom slightly pitched back. But if I go too far, I can't push the clutch all the way in without reaching.

And that's the key....put your seat where you can do EVERYTHING you might need to.

Another "duh" thing I've noticed is that I don't always plop down in the sweet spot. It usually takes a mile or so and I finally realize that I'm not comfortable or efficient in my actions.

Usually I'm 2 inches over to the right or I'm slouched (and reaching) becasue my back/butt isn't fully against the seat back.

Ideally you'd grab the wheel, plant your feet flat and do a little shimmie when you first get in the car. That's what they do in the movies anyway.

I'm 5'8" and thin so I can slip in and out with minimal effort. A long legged driver couldn't sit this way and easily get in or out. They'd try it for a week and likely go back to what's easier and more comfy.

This is what works for me...and while I may look like a geek, I can slip through the worst multi-lane, stop and go afternoon traffic without fear and without putting everyone on the road at risk.

It wasn't my fault the lady who creamed me was on the phone, driving too fast with crappy brakes. I mean, I could have easily plowed into the guy who stopped in front of me...but I didn't.

My head is pounding and I have no health insuracne....so let's keep the comments somewhat mellow, okay? Thanks.
