They advertise 7 bhp improvement and improvement in mpg. Not sure about the mpg improvement, but the increase bhp was there (especially with the K&N filter... 2 bhp, supposedly).
It was loud but sporty. Not for all tastes. Oh, and you get the occasional backfire (sounds like running over a cardboard box, really... whooof).
Part of the fun is engine-braking into a corner in 3rd gear with the windows down, that great -glug-glug-glug- sound, then accelerating out of the corner... I wish I'd tape recorded it before selling the car. The idle dB is rather high and low frequency... your neighbours will know that you've just made it back home, if you take my meaning.
The 9-3 and 9-5 are very quiet by comparison but equally fun to drive.
There might be some slight differences between the NG900 and the OG9-3 sport exhausts, but I've heard people have done it. Also, any competent exhaust shop should be able to install a "house brand" SS over-diameter system.
