Traded my 1997 900SE coupe daily driver at 123K for a 2002 9-3SE 5-door w/ 14K in 2005. Just recently traded my wife's car for a 2002 9-5 Aero SW w/ 32K in 2006, and this is now my daily driver now.
FWIW, my '97 900SE was stock save for a Saab SS sport exhaust and K&N air filter.
The Aero SW is a great driving car, lots of power, tight handling for a car this size, excellent cargo room with rear seats up or down. Our 9-3 is no slouch either, but the increase in passenger room is really noticeable.
The only downside is that it is a larger car, so tight situation manuevering is tougher. Also, the steering seems too light for a car with this tight of handling (compared to the heavy steering of the 900, which I liked). If you had a manual tranny in the 900, you will LOVE the easy clutch of the 9-5 (and OG9-3 too). Lighter but easily controllable.
My only suggestion would be to check out 5-dr OG9-3's as well, as they are very good performing cars with slightly better fuel economy.
Good luck - JMJ
