A 9-5 is a fun car to drive. An Aero is an unmitigated blast!
General concensus is that the 2003 was the best year for Aero's. GM started decontenting in '04. Things like heated rear seates, mesh storage pockets etc...started to disappear after that year.
They handle well, are quick, and in my view, very practical. They cost $thousands less than MB, or BMWs, while offering more content and comparable or better performance. I've always said that a 9-5 is similar to what BMW might like to offer if they produced front wheel drive cars.
And yep, some develop sludge issues (most feel it can be avoided with more frequent oil changes than the 10K interval recommended by SAAB. If you own the car long enough you'll have to fix the blend door, and plan on replacing the SID every 50K miles if you want to be able to reliably read it. In addition, the DIC will crap out on you every 25K to 100K miles so keep a spare on hand (used ones can be purchased pretty inexpensively).
I don't know about you , but i've never had a car that didn't need to be repaired every now and then. At least with Saabnet as a resource, I know what to keep my eyes open for.
Good luck
