Thanks for all the info and experiences.

I have spent the better part of today and last night reading through the threads on this board. What a treasure trove of information. There seems to be a reasonable solution to almost all of the common problems encountered with the 9-5. Talking trash with a dealer sales person should be interesting.

Then there is sludge. I read all the articles by Chuck Andrews. This problem is very discouraging. Seems that the auto trans. are more susceptible than 5 speeds. Previous maintenance history, regarding oil changes appears to be critical. Cars that have been serviced to Saab specifications are at risk. I doubt that a dealer is going to provide the details of past oil changes. It appears that my best bet is to buy a manual trans. car from a private owner, hopefully a Saab enthusiast.

I can probably live without an Aero. I'll have a better idea after I drive the different cars. Tomorrow I'm off to Sarasota to visit a Saab dealer and several used car dealers that have 9-5's advertised. Not a buying trip, just fact finding.

An acquaintance of mine is a dealer and will buy what ever I want, from Saab Financial. Depending on price, I may be able to spring for an 04 linear and avoid most of the sludge problems.

This 02 Aero, eBay item # 220076739873 is also interesting. The owner has already had the SID replaced under warranty, plus the other stuff he listed in the auction. He claims oil changes every 3k-5k. He doesn't know what oil the dealership used, but his indy used Castrol.

Someone once told me, buying a car is more fun than owning one...perhaps he was right.
