Thanks again for all the help and advice. It is tough not knowing much about cars because you really just put your faith in the mechanic and have to hope they are trustworthy. I searched the posts regarding the ABS module and they seem to indicate it is easy to have repaired.
I called the dealer and he said it was the ABS hydraulic unit that was broken. He also indicated that could effect the entire braking system, not just the ABS, so it wouldn't be safe to drive without it because the whole braking system could malfunction.

Do you know if the repairs discussed in the other posts are specific to the ABS computer, or relate to the entire ABS hydraulic unit? Sorry to have so many questions. I'm just trying to understand things as best as I can before deciding whether I think the dealer is looking out for my best interests or not.
