I'll second the nod for the Hakkas. Amazing performance and not all that expensive. I'm in western NY State (it snows a lot) and I've owned Nokias on all my Saabs for winter driving. I wouldn't recommend only going with a pair for the front; you really need all four wheels with snows for control in winter driving conditions.
I have an '01 Aero. It was a CPO and came with 17" BBS wheels and summer tires - a dangerous combination in the snow, IMHO. When I picked up the car (it was February...), 80 miles away from home, I had to wait for a clear, non-snowy day so I could drive it directly to my local dealer and change out the BBS wheels for 16" steels and Hakkas. (FWIW, the local Saab dealer fits snows on his entire Saab loaner fleet.) The 9-5 is truly a wonder in snow provided you have the right tires. Without snow tires, the 9-5 is not a stable or even a safe machine in snow, at least in my experience.
