oil in coolant=failed turbocharger? Posted by bobc [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Failing Turbocharger on 9-5, Tim Myland, Wed, 7 Mar 2007 08:53:40 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
- o2 sensor(s) is reasonable in 100k.
- IDM (aka DIC), well this sucks but it the price we all pay.
- failed cat was likely due to the failed IDM
about your turbo, my two cents:
- 4200 to replace? sounds way high
- oil in the coolant and they are diagnosing it as a failed turbo? sounds wrong to me.
- 3 turbos in 100k? that ain't right.
a failing turbo generally shows itself as a puff of blue smoke on startup, getting slowly worse. The turbo seals leak oil and the oil gets blown into the TB and burned in the combustion chamber. yes there are other failure modes for a turbo, but they are far less likely.
why is he diagnosing the turbo because he sees oil in the coolant?
might be time to get a second opinion from an indy or different dealer.
