That is why they call them "Hooter Valves"..... Posted by MI-Roger [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: More on trumpeting sound, BrianG, Fri, 23 Mar 2007 08:20:47 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Nothing wrong with your car, you are just hearing the BPV release through the air inlet system.
The enlarged air inlet snorkel (I think this is what you said you installed) is acting like one of those cheap plastic trumpets/horns sold at Baseball games and creating the sound you hear.
If you hear it too frequently, it could be a symptom of a torn diaphragm in your Bosch BPV. But this will also be evidenced by a loss of boost pressure and performance.
I usually hear mine when accelerating lightly from a stop. The engine is spinning faster due to lower gear rations, turbo is spinning fast and producing more boost than the engine needs since I am not "goosing" it, so excess pressure is released, and I announce my tepid acceleration via a trumpet blast to all onlookers!
The solution to eliminate this noise is to always drive with your throttle foot rammed to the firewall so the engine is always seeking maximum boost from the turbo and not relieving it to the intake. LOL
