I have a few question on diagnosing a turbo for being bad, I have been reading some posts reguarding the smoking issue, at first I jump to the conclusion it's the turbo, but then it looks like theres many other things it could be, I am a DIY guy and have no problems digging in to do some diagnosing myself. I bought this 99 saab 9-5 from a dealer for $2000.00 for my son, he is just 16 so I have some time before he get his licence. It had been sitting for a while and looks like theres a few oil leaks I have to address as well, but the oil is full right now. Heres the issue, When starting it up after a few second it starts to smoke, a blueish gey color with a smell of fuel, Now I looked at the plugs yesterday, they we brownish color, not that bad looking and dry, I replaced them with some NGK's I had from my saab, (also a 99 9-5) the problem was still there, So my question is, where to start ? I was thinking is might have something to do with poor crankcase ventilation, bad turbo, or maybe even a head gasket. So fellow saabers, where would be the best place to start and diagnose ? I know when I bought it they did an oil change for me, could it be just the wrong oil in there ?
