a few things to consider:
1 - Saabs are not for everyone. you understand this since you have owned them & driven them. the Previous Owner most likely does not understand this.
2 - the electrical problems in the 9-5 are few and well defined. with this board you can handle these with very little time and money. if you take it to a dealer (as the PO probably did) you will get unmercifully hammered.
example of "electrical problems":
* SID - you are guaranteed to have to fix the SID. take it to a dealer and it will cost you $500 every 3 years, and that sucks. BUT if you have an iron you can fix it yourself in 20 minutes (including the time to preheat the iron)
* ACC - yes the ACC will fail, but not electrically. usually a $25 piece breaks and it can be replaced in about 30 mins. take it to a dealer it will cost $2200
* taillights/parking sensor/trunk switch/etc: weird little electrical issues in the back of the car. this is due to the wiring harness chafing over time. its easily fixed with some electrical tape. take it to someone not familiar with 9-5s and it might cost 4 hrs labor to track it down.
* NSS/CPS: these sensors fail on any car. all senors will fail at some point.
* IDM: well known issue. The recall has addressed this and the hope is that newer IDMs are reliable now. still I carry spare. it takes all of 10 minutes to replace the IDM.
so what could be days wasted in the shop and thousands of dollars in "electrical problems" is really just a few minutes and a few dollars here and there.
This board is THE most valuable resource for the saab owner.
I have an '01 Aero, bought it last year with 58k and 15k miles later I still absolutely love it. I've done some preventative maintenance, replaced the brakes, and fixed a broken rad hose.
I doubt that a BMW or Volvo would be more reliable.
I cant say if this wagon is the right one for you but I would not discount it for electrical problems. and on the bright side ... what electrical problems it had were already fixed for you!
