I would disagree with both your assertions.
The 2001 and 2001 are fine, most folks can't tell the differences unless you specifically point them out. As a Saab salesman from 2001 to 2006 I drove the newer ones and the older ones all the time and I own a 2000 Aero SportWagon myself and the changes are very subtle and a person could be perfectly happy with a less expensive older 9-5.
Secondly we are not all Aero folks. Aero folks know who they are. The appeal of fat tires, firmer ride, and confining seats isn't for everyone. Many folks prefer the instant torque of the V6 and for many folks the Aero's extras are wasted.
