Higher octane fuel will help, if you aren't using it already. I run 93 octane during the summer months just for this reason, a change from the 89 octane I use during the rest of the year.
Obviously new plugs that are gapped correctly will help too. The NGK BCPR6ES plugs are less than $2 each at my local discount auto shop.
How many miles are on the car? I have ~195,700 miles on my 2000 lpt and I am beginning to suspect the original catalytic converter is plugging due to age and causing increased turbo lag for me. If it gets too bad it will throw a CEL, which it hasn't done yet. I am still hoping someone else will confirm my theory before I spend $550 on a 3-inch downpipe with Cat.
