Siren Battery Replacement - DIY does it last?

Thinking about replacing the siren batteries per the threads. I have read various posts that it may only last a few months - then the SID message reappears and random alarms.
Can someone confirm that if properly done, the batteries will last at least a year+?
Also, can someone confirm the proper part number is the Sanyo CR17335SE?
