Well, I actually took my Aero in when it was still under the CPO warranty. The dealer's top Saab tech (I've known him for over 20 years... a first-rate Saab guy) ran all of his diagnostics - nothing unusual was showing up. He replaced the DIC, reasoning that it might be flaky - no change. He upgraded the car's software. He then replaced the CPS, as whatever specs he had on it were just the slightest bit off. No definitive improvement. The service mgr. said that they had some info from Saab on this problem and that the fuel itself was a likely culprit, everyting else having been checked and eliminated.
To me, this conclusion sounded really odd. But I did as he suggested, switching from Mobil 93 to Sunoco 94. I waited until there was almost no gas left in the tank, and filled up with the hi-test Sunoco. (BTW, this is just about the most expensive gas you can buy; the price varies wildly, as much as 25¢ a gallon at different stations very close together...)
I drove the car about 15 miles, shut it down for the night. The next morning, the Aero started right up - no stumbling, no long crank, nada. The problem never came back in 2 years except for 2 days ago when we had that big temp fluctuation. I thinkt hat the fuel advisory is in an "official" Saab service note. Maybe Anders can confirm that.
