Anders, the new turbo was used but in good shape. All I really did was bolt it into place (with new copper washers and all outer seals), filled up the coolant and filled the oil. Although no one mentioned that the oil needed to be drained to replace the turbo, I can't see how one could remove the unit without at least removing the oil filter. Anyway, was there some type of step I missed to prep any of these systems for fluid, i.e. does the coolant system need to be bled, or must I pump oil and coolant into the new turbo some way? This ordeal surpasses my expertise, but CT is a long way from LA :)
Also, I just inspected the check valve in the pcv system, the little white one just behind the valve cover. It appears that I can both suck and blow through it, not to mention that it has a fair amount of oil in it. Is this exacerbating the problem? Can the new pcv system be pulling oil into the system?
This is the wife's 9-5, and the second time the turbo has blown in 60k. I have 2 td-04's (aero and viggen), a te-05 (900t) and whatever t-3 variant is in my 88 spg. These cars have a total of 575k, and have never had a turbo issue, they are all original. As much as the wife hates the suspension in my aero, she had better learn to deal with it b/c I refuse to buy another one of these LPTs again.
Thanks for the info.
