82k miles sounds awfully early for a chain to me, I hope it's not that.
The car had an oilchange 600 miles ago, and the last 150 miles before that oilchange were driven with half a can of seafoam in the oil. The problem started after the oilchange (only a week and a half ago) and my theory was that the seafoam broke up alot of old sludge deposits in the engine and the detergents in the fresh mobil 1 finished the job and now all of that sludge is stuck in the pan clogging the pickup screen instead of being crusted up on the valvetrain, etc.
How would I tell if it's the tensioner or a sludge issue, and would the "rattles at startup but goes away after some driving" symptoms fit with low oil pressure on startup due to a partially-clogged pickup screen?
